Home composting sessions planned for Fish Hoek and Kuils River

The Urban Waste Management Directorate will be hosting sessions on the City’s Home Composting Programme in Milnerton, Fish Hoek and Kuils River during October.

The City’s home composting initiative is continuing to provide residents with composting bins with new locations announced for October. This City programme has benefitted more than 50 000 residents, who have in turn contributed to reducing the amount of carbon emissions produced at landfills, which significantly affects global warming.

Residents who have not yet collected their free compost bin are encouraged to do so and help the City divert all waste from landfills by 2027.

Upcoming sessions
Every session runs from 08:00 to 12:00.
• Fish Hoek Civic Centre: Central Circle, Fish Hoek – 11 October
• Van Riebeeck Hall: Church Street, Kuils River – 18 October

‘Cutting down on the amount of organic waste that we allow to reach landfill is a sure way to reduce our carbon footprint as a city. Composting food waste at home not only reduces the environmental impact of organic waste, but also feeds your soil and results in a healthier, more productive garden,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

Requirements
• You need to be a homeowner or tenant of a single residence (sectional title flats are excluded);
• Your property needs to include a secure garden or yard area;
• Bring a copy of your municipal account; and
• Bring your identity document or passport

If you do not see your area on the list at present, please be assured the City is still planning future locations for roll-outs.

If you have missed the roll-out session in your area, residents are free to attend any session in any area provided you meet the above requirements and have the required documents.
